At a Glance

K’gari, more popularly known as Fraser Island World Heritage Area, is located of the East Coast of Queensland, Australia. Local Aboriginal people have long known the island as K’gari (which means Paradise) and recently succeeded in having the name recognised officially. With every step of your journey through this enchanted island, you will be astonished by the natural wonders, history and incredible beauty of Fraser Island. Fraser Island is huge and you can reach there from Noosa or Rainbow Beach, joining the island at one end and driving almost the full length. There are popular tag-along tours that give you the chance to drive yourself in the company of others. Just across the water is beautiful Hervey Bay, a resting area for Humpback Whales seasonally and with its resident Bottlenose and Indo-pacific Humpback Dolphins. Take a cruise before retiring either at your resort on Fraser or back in Hervey Bay. 

When to visit

Hervey Bay has a subtropical climate and is a perfect place to holiday year round. Popular times are the whale-watching seasons from about July to September but a visit any time of year is worthwhile.

Climate

The summer months are hottest and Winters are pleasant with daily maximums usually reaching a pleasant 20 degrees or so. Winters are mostly dry and sunny and most rainfall is during the summer, particularly in the evenings.
