When to visit

Sydney is a year-round travel destination. Bushwalking is pleasant during the winter when rainfall is least and there can be many warm days of blue sky. The south coast is less affected by Antarctic blows than the rest of Australia, as it's shielded by the continent. Spring and autumn are popular as weather warms up and there are many uncrowded areas to visit, both on the coast and in the hinterland.

Climate

Sydney climate is relatively dry and cool in the winter (Jun - Aug) and warmer and wet in the summer. The coastal areas to the south are protected from predominant weather systems in winter but east coast low pressures in the summer can bring heavy rains and wind. These storms usually don't last long. Climate on the escarpment areas such as the Blue Mountains and Barrington Tops is several degrees cooler and in winter, it often snows.
