As we drive along the scenic coast road from Limassol to Paphos, our first stop is at Petra tou Romiou, the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite. This fascinating geological formation, composed of massive rocks, is located along one of the island's most stunning coastlines, in the southwestern Paphos district. According to ancient myth, the Greek Goddess of Love and Beauty, Aphrodite, was born from the sea foam at this very spot. Legend has it that she emerged from the waves and was carried on a shell to this enchanting beach. The imposing rock formations at this location are also tied to a more recent tale involving the Byzantine hero Digenis Akritas, who is said to have hurled them into the sea to protect the region from invading Saracen Arabs during the 7th to 10th centuries. The name Petra tou Romiou translates to "Rock of the Greek," in honour of this heroic figure. Continuing our journey to Paphos, we will visit the courtyard of Chrysopolitissa, which was constructed over the remains of the largest Early Christian Basilica on the island. Within the church's courtyard stands St. Paul’s Pillar, where, according to tradition, the Apostle was flogged prior to converting the Roman governor, Sergius Paulus, to Christianity. Next, we will explore the Paphos Archaeological Park, home to the rich history of the town, including the magnificent villas known as the House of Dionysos, Aion, and Thysseus. The exquisite mosaic floors of these noble residences date back to between the 3rd and 5th centuries BC and are regarded as some of the finest examples of their kind in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The sanctuary was a significant religious hub that underwent numerous expansions and modifications over the centuries. Our destination is the vibrant city of Limassol. With its picturesque Mediterranean waterfront, a wealth of cultural attractions, and captivating historical sites, Limassol is a bustling metropolis. Our excursion takes you through the charming old town, where you can admire the imposing medieval castle of Lemesos. According to history, this 14th-century fortress is the very place where Richard the Lionheart wed Berengaria of Navarre.
