Situated between the Alps and the Ligurian Riviera, Piedmont is a region that offers many different experiences, from incredible food and wine to memorable villages and iconic landmarks.Throughout this five-day northern Italy tour, your activities and destinations will be focused around the history and gastronomy of this region in particular.In Turin, the rich heritage will occupy your day as you tour the Royal Palace of Turin and dine at Michelin star restaurants. Then moving on to the Langhe area, you'll visit beautiful churches and castles in between tasting the excellent local food and wine at various wineries and famed restaurants.
Upon arrival in Turin, your driver will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in the heart of the city. In the centre of the city of Turin stands the Royal Palace of Turin, which for three centuries has been the centre of the House of Savoy, the Royal family that reigned over northwestern Italy. After exploring the palace, you can head to the great nightspot, Bar Cavour, for some dinner. It is a sophisticated bar with a kitchen and a great collection of contemporary art.
Day 2: Discover Turin
Continue your Norther Italy trip with a two-hour guided sightseeing tour of the city. Beginning in the grand Parco del Valentino, visit the early 17th-century Castello del Valentino and then explore the medieval village. Following that you'll visit the iconic 167-metre high landmark of Turin and of Italy, the Mole Antonelliana. After visiting the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, you'll head to Museo Egizio, the world's oldest museum home to the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities.
Day 3: Explore Alba & Langhe e Roero
Today, you'll leave Turin by in your own rental car and reach the Langhe e Rro area, a concentration of vineyards, castles and good food. Your first stop is the Basilica of Superga, a beautiful church at the outskirts of Turin. You'll then drive to the lovely city of Asti for lunch and to taste the sparkling wine. The day ends in Alba, the city of the white truffle and centre of the Langhe e Rro wine area, where you'll visit the cathedral and enjoy a beautiful dinner.
Day 4: Grinzane Cavour, Barolo & La Morra - Wine, Truflles & Castles
This morning from Alba, you'll go on a self-drive tour around the Barolo vineyard. Make sure you don't miss the coloured Cappella del Barolo! You'll visit the Castle of Grinzane Cavour, a symbol of the area which overlooks the surrounding vineyards. After a leisurely lunch, you'll go for a stroll at Barolo before visiting the Cantine Marchesi di Barolo winery where you'll attend a wine tasting and learn all about the wines of this region.
Day 5: Finish Your Northern Italy Tour
Today, your trip comes to an end and you'll either self-drive to the airport or take a private car transfer to the airport for your departing flight.
