A full day guided tour that visits a number of the diverse habitats found in the beautiful rainforest clad highlands above Cairns. This is home to an outstanding variety wildlife from birds to mammals, butterflies and other insects, reptiles and frogs. Birds may include the prehistoric Cassowary, Victoria’s Riflebird – one of Australia’s four Birds of Paradise, a variety of colourful Parrots and Finches, stately Cranes and some beautiful Fairywrens. While most Australian mammals are nocturnal amongst those we hope to see on our journey are the iconic Platypus, an impressive variety of Kangaroos and Wallabies including the bizarre Lumholz’s Tree Kangaroo and a roost of Spectacled and perhaps Little Red Flying Foxes. In addition Bandicoots, Possums and Sugar Gliders are amongst the nocturnal mammals that can often be seen in the early evening. Add to these the glorious Cairns Birdwings and Ulysses Butterflies, Frill-necked Lizards, basking on the roads, the possibility of beautiful Carpet and Amethystine Pythons in the forests and the sound of a myriad Tree Frogs and Crickets in the evening, this is a great introduction to this areas wildlife.
